General English – Aviation is a 250-hour course for aviation personnel who need to improve their general English in order to meet the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements. The course consists of two modules, Module A and B. Participants can enter either Module A or B, depending on the pilot's or air traffic controller's language level.
The course takes a communicative approach to language learning and emphasises communication in a variety of aviation-related contexts. The course specifically focuses improving listening and speaking skills. It develops functional language and vocabulary for successful communication in a range of aviation-related contexts before the more specific language in radiotelephony is developed in either of the courses - Radiotelephony English for Pilots or Radiotelephony English for Air Traffic Controllers.
Delivery options are flexible, with up to 50% independent study: for example, 4 hours of teacher-led instruction and 4 hours of independent study per week.
